I have always wanted to create a short animation with motion graphics, and this was my first attempt. The story is simple: the red-haired girl was running away from an unknown existence, and as she turned back to look at it, we saw the ghost grabbing her.
This visual effect is achieved by breaking characters to vector shapes and placing them in a 3D plane with alternate locations. With the movement of the camera, what seems to be chaos at one angle appears to be cohesive words at another.
The key part of the animation is the running motions. Synchronizing the body movements was very challenging because I wanted to make sure that they look natural yet dramatic. The trick is to find a video of someone running and mimic the movements in the video. I ended up simplifying the actions for the animation to get the gist of the running motion.
The entire idea of encountering unavoidable terror is revealed as Luna turned her head and saw the ghost grabbing her in her eyes. Whether it got her or not—you’ll never know.
